Chinese New Year

Kung Hei Fat Choy!

Nursery children have had a lovely week learning all about Chinese New Year.

We watched a power point all about how the animals raced to see who would be in the zodiac. We found out that the rat won by cheating!

2016 is the year of the monkey. We found out that our nursery children were either born in the year of the rabbit or the dragon!

We looked on the globe and found out that China is a long way away from England. We found out that you can't drive there, but would have to get there by aeroplane or ship.

Lots of activities took place this week, including dragon dancing, practising with chop sticks in the funky fingers, making dragon tails in the number area, trying our hand at Chinese writing and much more.

On Monday 8th February, we came to school wearing red and enjoyed some lovely Chinese food, yum!

Lots of children went to Manchester to watch the activities and were very excited to tell us all about it. Please enjoy our photos below and the video of the children wishing you a Happy New Year in Chinese. smiley

We looked on the class globe for China and learnt about the story of the dragon race. We were not impressed with the rat!

We sampled noodles, rice, sauce and prawn crackers. Plates were emptied and lots of children returned for seconds!

We are so clever, practising our Chinese writing!

The funky finger challenge: Can you use chopsticks to move items from one bowl to another? Take a look who can.

It's a dragon dance!

We're doing a dragon dance.

We rolled dice in the number area to see how long our dragon's tail had to be. Super work!

We used scissors to cut out and make Chinese fans.

Wow, look at what these children made at home and we were even treated to lucky red envelopes filled with treats. Thank you very much!
