This week the children have enjoyed listening to the fabulous space story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. The children were extremely amused when they heard that the cheeky aliens come to visit planet Earth to steal our underpants! However today the aliens have secretly visited school to bring us some of their underpants for the children to peg on our own washing line, accompanied by a letter. The children helped me to make a washing line by attaching string to two poles, it was just the right height for us to hang up the underpants! Then we practised squeezing the pegs using strong fingers and finally all worked hard together to hang up the underpants in a line. The children developed fine motor control and mathematical skills whilst discussing the different patterns on the underpants and counting them. We learnt about one more than a given number whilst having great fun. The children took lots of pictures to send to the aliens and tomorrow we will write them a letter thanking them for the colourful underpants. We have been decorating some underpants in class to send back to the aliens as a thank you present. What a lovely week we are having in nursery! Please encourage your child to help you sort and hang up your washing at home in the warmer months to develop fine motor control, early writing skills and mathematical development π½πππ
