Year 5
Summer Term
Dance
Our Dance Coach is teaching us some groovy moves in time to a rhythm! We are learning a range of dance routines, working both in small groups and as a whole class, in time to the beat, developing our co-ordination skills.
Art
We have been lucky enough to have an outside Art Co-ordinator visiting and have experimented with a wide variety of texture, pattern, line, form and shape. We have also studied the artist Claude Monet and painted using an ‘impressionist’ style with pastels and water colours.
Literacy
This term we are reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and taking part in role-play, reading and extended writing activities (such as writing log books) associated with this text. We will also be studying the famous poem ‘The Highway Man’ looking at different features of verse, rhyme, and the structure of traditional poetry.
Music
We have really been enjoying our weekly guitar sessions and have extended our abilities to play ‘The Titanic’ and music from The Black Eyed Peas , as well as the Harry Potter Theme. Click on the guitar show to see us in action.
R.E.
We will be studying the world faith of Islam and it’s most important aspects including the Mosque, Qur’an, Mohammed and other prophets and traditions. We will be using a range of non-fiction material, ICT resources and watching short extracts to enhance our understanding of Islam.
Science
We are studying plants and life processes, including pollination and germination. Later on in the term we will be looking at ‘sound’.
Numeracy
We are continuing to revise a wide range of topics including rounding numbers, decimals, area & perimeter as well as addressing more challenging problems involving the 4 operations.
We hope you will enjoy looking at some of our work in progress!
WW2 Day
The whole school took part in WW2 Day on 15th January 2013 . Please take a look at Y5 dressed as evacuees.
Year 5 are immersed in Victorian times during this half term, which culminates in a Victorian Day.

France on Skype!
Y5 connected up with our twin French school last Friday and will do so again this Friday. The Y5 children had written to the children in CM1 at our twin school and then they went on Skype to meet them for the first time face to face and to have a chat in both French and English. The Y5 children really enjoyed seeing their French friends live in their French classroom.
