Year 6

Welcome to Year 6.

Camelot!

Yr5& Yr6 school trip was to the theme park 'Camelot' this year. A great time was had by all the children and staff too!

Treasure Island

Year 5 and Year 6 have been working very hard rehearsing for their Treasure Island production. From the snippets the staff and pupils have seen and heard whilst rehearsals are ongoing, we know this is going to be a fantastic show! The whole school cannot wait to see the final production.
Please take a look at the rehearsal slideshow.

AINSWORTH'S GOT TALENT!

Eamonn, a former pupil of Christ Church, and Megan a present pupil in Yr6 were lucky enough to be chosen to star in CBBC'S MATCH OF THE DAY KICKABOUT SHOW.
Eamonn is the superfan for Manchester United and Megan is the superfan for Bolton Wanderers.
They had to go to the BBC TV CENTRE in London to be filmed. They both had a fabulous day and were lucky enough to also play football in the Blue Peter garden.

Click below to take a look at the slideshow to see the pics of the day.

Well done Eamonn and Megan!
We will confirm the dates these shows will be aired as soon as we know.

Put That Light Out!

Year 6 worked incredibly hard to rehearse and perform ' a play in a day ' to the rest of the school. 'Put That Light Out' was a play based on WW2. They really enjoyed this well written play and were able to relate it to the history topic (WW2) which they studied last term.
A big 'Thank You' to Jeff from Stage Centre who came into school to direct the play. We hope to see him again next year!
We hope you enjoy watching our videos - click below to watch the different scenes...

Chinese New Year

We celebrated Chinese New Year in many different ways, from a Chinese buffet to making lanterns, we had a great time. Throughout the week we created a 2 D dragon which has been put up in the entrance of school along with some of our Chinese lanterns. We drew black Chinese symbols on them some made up, some with phrases and some with names. Whilst our Chinese buffet was being prepared we played games in the hall. We had a special class on one afternoon, teaching us how to paint some Chinese templates and to use Chinese paintbrushes. Our teacher even wore her Chinese top in school. All the way through the week we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Chinese New Year 2011, was AMAZING!

Ben Thompson's Visit

Ben Thompson (aka Ryan from Coronation Street) came into school to talk to Y6 about his new venture ‘The Rock School’. Ben runs ‘The Rock School’ at the Carol Godby theatre workshop in Bury, where he teaches groups of children to play drums or guitar, and equips them with the skills required to gain experience with music technology and live performance.

The children really enjoyed listening to Ben perform and even had a go themselves!! We could not end the morning without asking him a few questions about his role as Ryan in coronation Street, and of course asking him to sign a few autographs!!

If you are interested in learning more about the Rock School, please telephone 0161 763 6420.

Year 6 have been working hard to create a Christmas display. We have been reading Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol'. We gathered together a word bank about the character 'Ebenezer Scrooge' and wrote poems about him. We will be practising writing many genres including diary entries in the role of scrooge, comparing and contrasting in the book and, like the chains which weighed down Jacob Marley, thinking about what our chains would say about us!!!

We will be continuing our Christmas theme by studying the film 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.' We will be comparing extracts of the novel to film and looking at how the characters are portrayed.

Year 6 will join up with year 5 where we will be performing at the MEN arena along with lots of other schools from around the North West. We will finish the term off with our usual carols around the tree, and after a two week break, will come back to school raring to go and ready for another busy term!!
