Year 3

Museum of Science & Industry Visit

On Tuesday 12th July Yr3 went on their school trip to the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester.
We had fun in the science experiment hall, went in the sewers, learnt about the history of gas, electricity & the cotton industry. We saw 14 different forms of transport in the Air & Space Hall and lots of engines in the Power Hall.
We learnt how paper was first made and we all got to make a piece in the same way.
We looked at different types of paper under a microscope and we made a decision maker to help us find out which papers could be recycled.
There was a lot to see and do. We had a busy, tiring but enjoyable day.

At the moment in out topic lessons we are busy learning all about life 2000 years ago, when the Romans invaded Celtic Britain.

Environment Week

For environment week we are making things out of recyclable materials. If anyone has any egg shells, foil trays, plastic tubs, empty tins, old beads, patterned plastic straws or beer bottle tops please send them in.

Chinese New Year

Year 3 had a fun week celebrating Chinese New Year. First we listened to the story of the animal race which decided the order in which we celebrate the animal years. As this year is the Year of the Rabbit we made cut out rabbit pictures which look great.

We also made Chinese lanterns, dragons and money wallets. We learnt a little bit about the country of China and how the Chinese celebrate the New Year. We had a go at eating noodles with chopsticks and we made some boxes by folding paper (Origami).

Museum Visit

On Thursday 17th June, Vicky and Luke from the Outreach Department of Manchester Museum came to school. They brought some Ancient Egyptian artefacts with them. We travelled back in time to Ancient Egypt to find out what they were used for and by whom. We worked in groups as either scribes, farmers, dancers or priests and we acted out our jobs to the rest of the class.
We watched the River Nile flood before we came back to Ainsworth in 2010.
It was amazing to see and touch artefacts that were over 3,000 years old. We really enjoyed the visit and Vicky said we were brilliant to work with. A good morning was had by all!
