Christmas trees

Nursery love making things out of salt dough. It's quick,  easy and very cheap to make. We talked about centre pieces for the table on Christmas day and decided to make Christmas trees. Although Rudolf's head nearly won the vote!

The children made the dough themselves in little groups. It was hard work to roll and press flat. Then it was even harder to cut it into shape. Nursery children's cutting skills came on a treat! Have a look at how hard we worked.

First of all we rolled the salt dough and then we pressed it flat.

Next we used star shaped templates to cut the dough into shape. This was very tricky!

At last we were ready to put all our pieces together and add a star to the top. Finally they looked like Christmas trees and were ready to bake in the oven.

Our trees came out of the oven looking very plain. We talked about what colour our Christmas trees should be and decided as a class that the star must be yellow!

A bit of gold and green glitter and our Christmas tree centre pieces look fabulous! Don't forget to put them on your table for your Christmas lunch Nursery children.
