Today the EYFS children went to the Church in Ainsworth. Here Reverend Dave greeted us and talked about all of the different things they have within the church such as the pews, the organ, the font and the lectern. The children all listened beautifully to Revd Dave whilst he explained what each of these things were used from. Revd Dave explained that they use the font for christenings and he even remembered christening some of the children from Reception and Nursery.
Revd Dave then went on to explain about the preparations that will be taking place in the lead up to Easter, he explained that Easter doesn't just last one day, that it actually lasts for 50 days! Revd Dave talked about Palm Sunday and that it is the day that Jesus entered into Jerusalem and he was greeted by people waving palm branches. Revd Dave was then kind enough to give each of the children a palm cross explaining that Palm Sunday is a reminder of welcoming Jesus into our hearts and of our willingness to follow him.
Afterwards, the children had a look around the church, we looked at the stain glass windows, the font and the lectern. They even had a look through Revd Dave's secret door, which was very exciting. After this, Mrs Cornford read the Easter story, reminding the children as to why Easter is a celebration of new life. 🐣 🌷🌺
